Investigators Raid Romulus Police Department

ROMULUS (WWJ) - Michigan State Police and federal agents have served a search warrant as part of an ongoing investigation of the Romulus Police Department.

Investigators were seen leaving Romulus Police Headquarters with boxes and bags of evidence.

WWJ's Marie Osborne reports that Romulus Police Chief  Michael St. Andre's Garden City home and his wife's tanning salon were also the targets of raids.

Investigatos would not say what they're looking for, but sources say the probe goes back at least two years.

Although official information is still limited in the case, Romulus Mayor Alan Lambert did confirm that Michigan State police served the  warrant Tuesday morning -- and he's directed the department and all city departments to cooperate.

There are reports that the Wayne County Prosecutor's' office and the FBI are involved. The Mayor said the city stands behind its police department and has no objection to the investigation.
