Reward Offered After Dog Was Found In Trash Can

DETROIT (WWJ) - The Michigan Humane Society (MHS) is offering a $1,000 reward for information leading to the arrest and conviction of the person or persons who intentionally threw a Chihuahua into a trash container. The incident happened on the east side of Detroit earlier this week.

The 3-year-old female pup, named Cider, is currently being cared for at the MHS Detroit Center for Animal Care.

"She's a bit dirty, hungry and dehydrated, but thankfully, we got her in time," Mark Ramos, MHS Senior Cruelty Investigator, said in a release. "If it had been much longer, who knows what would have happened to her?"

Cider was discovered, huddling in a trash container, by a concerned citizen on Tuesday afternoon. The dog was brought to MHS, where she received food, water and medical care.

As of Wednesday afternoon, Cider is being well cared for and "held" as a stray animal according to Michigan law while MHS Cruelty Investigators seek additional information regarding her ordeal.

If you have any information related to the case, please call 1-866-MHUMANE.
