DETROIT (WWJ) - The Central Collegiate Hockey Association officially opening playoff action Friday with a ceremonial slap shot by Detroit Mayor Dave Bing and other dignitaries. Bing says that this event brings lots of good things to the city of Detroit.
Michigan, Notre Dame, Miami, and Western Michigan have all advanced to championship play. Hockey in the 'D', championship play will be March 18 and 19.
"It's been 30 years and the ancillary multiplied effect from this being downtown is in the millions of dollars, so the restaurants and a lot of the bars and things of that nature - we get a lot of people that normally would not come downtown are coming downtown," says Bing.
Also on hand for the opening Wayne County Executive Robert Ficano, Olympia Entertainment President Tom Wilson, Detroit Riverfront Conservancy Board Chairman Matt Cullen and CCHA Commissioner Tom Anastos.
