Court Rules: EFM Has Control Over District

DETROIT ( WWJ) - Detroit Public Schools Emergency Financial Manager, Robert Bobb now has total control over district operations.  Friday Circuit Court Judge Wendy Baxter reversed her earlier decision that kept academic control with the board.

District spokesman Steve Wasko says the move is in line with the new Emergency Financial Manager law now in place.

Friday's action essentially ends the school board's fight with Bobb over several proposed changes in the district.

School Board member Tyrone Winfrey says they will continue to work with Bobb.

"I wouldn't want to speculate on what Judge Baxter was thinking. This hearing had been scheduled for some time prior to signing of the laws so it was not like it was something that occurred just because the laws were signed. Clearly one impacts the other" say Winfrey.

Winfrey said that he had felt,"over the last few weeks that we had been working together."

Winfrey notes that they are going to keep plugging on to improve quality of life.
