Do Your Kids Baffle You?

PLYMOUTH (WWJ) - As a parent -- do you struggle to understand your children? If  the answer is yes, then you don't want to miss the "Do Your Kids Baffle You" workshop this Saturday.

Renowned author, Tim Elmore will will share insight, encouragement and practical steps on how to parent what he calls "generation i-Y."

"I call them generation i-Y because of the impact of the "i-world" -- i-tunes, i-pod, i-phone, i-chat, i-movies, i-pads now. and for many of them, life is pretty much about I. So, it's a much more self absorbed batch of kids than there earlier counterparts," he said.

Elmore tells WWJ there are various parental styles that can damage a child -- for example, "The Helicopter Parent."

"That's the parent that's hovering over their child like a helicopter --making sure they pave the way and fill out the forms, get everything lined up for their child's future. They act as an agent almost and obviously the damage there can be the kid isn't able to do those things for him or herself," Elmore said.

The "Do Your Kids Baffle You" workshop takes place Saturday, March 19 at 9 a.m., at Northridge Church in Plymouth. Admission is $10 per person or$15 per couple.
