School Staff's Social Security Numbers Mistakenly Sent To Parents

BLOOMFIELD HILLS (WWJ) - Officials with the Bloomfield Hills school district are notifying more than 300 employees that their social security numbers were listed in some information requested from parents. WWJ's Rob Sanford said the mistake was discovered last weekend.

The request for information came from a community activist who wanted to know the number of staff whose salaries and benefits added up to $100,000.

Not only was the information sent, but along with it the social security numbers of 321 employees were mistakenly released.

Betty Erickson, a spokeswoman for the Bloomfield Hills school district, told the Detroit Free Press it is a situation that is very regrettable and they are notifying all of the affected employees by mail.

While the teachers union is upset about the mistake, President Frank Laurinec Jr. said he gives the district credit for taking steps to correct the error.
