Detroit's KEM Returns To Hometown For Sold-Out Performance

DETROIT (WWJ) - Universal Motown Recording Artist, and Detroit native, KEM returns to the city Friday night with his headline tour to perform in front of a sold-out crowd at the Fox Theatre.

The Intimacy Tour was named after KEM's critically acclaimed latest album, "Intimacy," which features the two-time Grammy-nominated single, "Why Would You Stay." The tour is ranked fifth on Ticketmaster.com's most popular R&B/Urban Soul concert list and has a 4.7 out of 5-stars rating on the website.

Guests who turn out for Friday's concert can also enjoy music from special guest Musiq Soulchild and featured act Ledisi.

KEM said he particularly loves performing before a hometown crowd because this is where it all started.

"Anytime we have an opportunity to perform in Detroit, I consider it to be a privilege," KEM said in a release. "My career was built on the love of Detroit. We didn't have a record deal in the beginning. I was selling CDs out of my car. The people of Detroit are the ones who helped put us on the map, and it's very humbling."

KEM's career has been flying high ever since his debut album "Kemistry," which sold 500,000 copies. He followed that up with "KEM: Album Two" and now he's riding the success of this third album "Intimacy."

WWJ's Entertainment Reporter Terri Lee caught up with KEM inbetween performances for some advice on success. "I got some good friends that told me, in order to keep what you have you gotta give it away. It's important for all of us, not only for myself. Any time we are allowed to overcome something, or we have victory in our lives, it's important we share that," KEM said.

He's not shy about his love for Detroit either. "I can't say enough great things about the people of Detroit. Everywhere we go, we're promoting the city of Detroit. We  have great Detroit musicians in the band, and our whole crew, from lighting to sound to background singers to management, is from Detroit. So we're looking forward to finally being able to share our Detroit-based production with the fans in our hometown," he said.

As a result of the tour's popularity, KEM has added additional dates to his tour, including a second stop in Detroit on April 10, which will feature Grammy-winning artist and "American Idol" alum Fantasia.
