Tigers Topped By Braves

KISSIMMEE, Fla. (WWJ/AP) - Detroit's Miguel Cabrera got two hits, raising his spring average but not enough for the Tigers as they lose to the Atlanta Braves 5-3 on Friday night.

Cabrera raised his spring batting average to .306 with the two hits against Atlanta.

Rookie Brandon Beachy allowed two hits in six scoreless innings, Chipper Jones hit his fourth homer of the spring to aid in the Braves win.

Beachy, who found out a day earlier he had won a spot in the Atlanta rotation, struck out six and walked one while lowering his ERA to 1.13. He pitched five scoreless innings against the Tigers last Saturday, giving up one hit.

Jones homered in the first inning off rookie left-hander Adam Wilk, who had posted a 0.71 ERA in a bid for a bullpen spot with the Tigers. The veteran third baseman has 15 RBIs and is batting .411 in Grapefruit League games.
