Detroit Pistons Notes And Quotes

--Taking care of the basketball doesn't always translate to success. The Pistons have committed an average of 12.8 turnovers per game, the fewest in the league, yet are 21 games below .500. The other four teams among the top five in ball protection -- the Los Angeles Lakers, New Orleans, Philadelphia and Portland -- are a combined 57 games over .500.

--The Fennville Blackhawks boys basketball team was in attendance Saturday and got a standing ovation when introduced by the public-address announcer during the third quarter. Fennville became a national story when it won a Class C district title a week after star player Wes Leonard collapsed on the court and died of a heart ailment minutes after hitting a game-winning shot. The Blackhawks lost in the regionals to eventually state champion Schoolcraft.

QUOTE TO NOTE
"I was mentally fine when I knew UConn won the game. One of the fans was yelling the score, telling me what was going on." -- Forward Charlie Villanueva, on his alma mater, the University of Connecticut, reaching the Final Four on the same night when he scored 13 fourth-quarter points.
