Holy Traffic Back-Up, She's Having A Baby!

LIVINGSTON COUNTY (WWJ) - Authorities say a roadside birth along U.S. 23 in Livingston County caused a morning traffic backup as rescuers attended to the woman and her newborn son.

Green Oak Township Deputy Fire Chief Kevin Gentry tells WWJ that rescuers were dispatched to the 8 Mile Road off ramp, Monday morning after the woman called to say she was giving birth. By the time they arrived, the infant had already arrived.

An off-duty fireman from Howell stopped to give assistance and the baby had already arrived.

Both mother and baby were taken to University of Michigan Hospital, and the deputy chief says they were in good shape. Southbound U.S. 23 was backed up for about an hour because of the birth.
