Clock Ticks As Government Shut Down Nears
DETROIT (WWJ) - The clock is ticking on another temporary spending bill for the federal government. The latest stop-gap measure is soon to expire, and President Obama is hoping a meeting with top Republicans and Democrats Tuesday morning will result in some kind of agreement on spending cuts.
Michigan Senator Carl Levin says the GOP is going after several programs.
"Education and food programs and health programs, they want to cut everything, massive cuts, Head Start, Pell Grants," says Levin.
Both sides have been talking contingency plans if the government does shut down midnight Friday.
