DETROIT (WWJ) – A big thank you to law enforcement- always there to serve and protect. Members of law enforcement were recognized Sunday at Greater Grace Temple’s annual Law Enforcement Appreciation Day in Detroit.

WWJ’s Beth Fisher reports it was Greater Grace’s annual law enforcement appreciation day, where federal, state and local law enforcement appeared, Detroit Mayor Dave Bing says he’s always respected law enforcement.

“Once I got to this job, I not only continued to appreciate them and respect them, but it went to another level,” says Mayor Bing.

Some members of Detroit’s sixth police precinct were also recognized for heroism, for their efforts when a gunman shot at them at the precinct this year, wounding some officers.

Mayor Bing says things happen and police work so diligently for us, that he wants police to know they are appreciated.

“I know that I can always go back to the office or go home and not worry about whether I’m going to make it back, but these people work so diligently for us, and so often are so totally unappreciated until we are in need,” Bing says.
