2 Motorcyclists Die In Separate Crashes

WATERFORD TWP. (WWJ) - Two motorcyclists are dead after weekend crashes in Waterford Township. 

The first accident was reported just before 9 p.m. Saturday near Elizabeth Lake Road.  Police say 24-year old Matthew

 Ortega of Waterford was traveling at a high rate of speed when crashed into the back of a car driven by a Pennsylvania man.  The driver of the car wasn't hurt. 

Sunday night, three miles west on Highland Road, near Whittier Street and the Oakland County International Airport, police say a Harley Davidson rider ran into the back of a minivan.  The 44-year old Larry Sears of Waterford was thrown from his motorcycle and hit his head on the pavement.  He was pronounced dead at the scene. 

The accident caused the driver of the minivan to lose control and hit a curb and flip.  A 16-year old passenger in the van was taken to the hospital with minor injuries.  The driver and a second passenger were  not hurt.

Investigators say the bikers were wearing helmets.
