Trial Date Set In Michigan Crossing Guard Attack

LANSING (AP) - A tentative trial date has been set for two Michigan parents charged in the beating of a 73-year-old school crossing guard who police say tried to break up a fight between their 6-year-old son and a 7-year-old classmate.

Twenty-nine-year-old Shareka McKinney and 26-year-old Darell Livingston entered not guilty pleas Tuesday to misdemeanor charges of assault and battery and contributing to the delinquency of a minor.

The Lansing State Journal reports a trial was scheduled for May 12.

Lansing police say the boys got into a fight March 30 at Lyons Elementary School. Police say the parents set up a rematch the next morning and then attacked the crossing guard.

The parents have said they never intended for the boys to fight and only defended themselves against the crossing guard.
