Feature Film 'AWOL' Approved For Michigan Film Credits

LANSING (WWJ) - The Michigan Film Office announced Wednesday the feature film AWOL has been approved for a film incentive from the state.

The film, based on a true story of a Michigan solider, takes place during the Vietnam War and is set in Ann Arbor and surrounding areas.
 
"This project not only tells a great story, it also highlights the home-grown filmmaking talent we have here in Michigan," Carrie Jones, director of the Michigan Film Office, said in a release. "From the screenplay and producers to the story's setting, this is a Michigan-made film from start to finish and we are thrilled it will be shooting here in the state."
 
The project was awarded an incentive of $1,837,483 on $4,374,960 of projected in-state expenditures.
 
AWOL is the fourth project approved under the new policy and guidelines issued by the Michigan Film Office, and the sixth project approved in 2011.

To date, $10,039,141 in incentives have been awarded on $24,247,502 of approved production expenditures for the year.
 
Since the incentives took effect in April 2008, the Film Office and the Department of Treasury have approved a total of $371,104,955 in film incentives on $945,620,606 in total qualified expenditures by productions in Michigan.
