Next Phase Of Cobo Expansion Underway
DETROIT (WWJ) - It won't be easy to see, but Cobo Center is expanding before your eyes. The second phase of the big renovation project now underway, with a 25,000 square foot addition to the Oakland Hall, which will be added in the back.
Along with new loading docks, construction point man Gary Brown says the addition will include a perimeter corridor, which will keep workers and staff behind the scenes, compared to what you see now at Cobo.
The expansion should be ready in time for next year's auto show.
The final phase--with the demolition of Cobo Arena--will take place in early July.
"And what you'd see is service vehicles going through the center ... now what you will see is everything back of house ... apart from the public which is something that makes it a more serviceable building ... and makes it more ... pleasing," says Brown.
