Parents Concerned About Proposed School Cuts

BIRMINGHAM (WWJ) - Parents across Metro Detroit are growing increasingly concerned about Governor Rick Snyder's proposed cuts to education. WWJ Newsradio 950's Beth Fisher sat in on a community forum held in Birmingham Monday night.

Beth spoke with Carolyn Capone, who has three kids in elementary school in Birmingham. Capone is a PTA president worried about cuts to schools.

"We feel that the universities have largely been spared by the proposed cuts and they, of course, have the ability to raise tuition or have endowments or so forth to help fund their situations, and elementary schools we have no other way," Capone told WWJ's Beth Fisher.

State Representative Chuck Moss of Birmingham says, "I don't see that we can hold K-12 harmless from all the cuts that everyone else is having to make."

Meanwhile, State Rep. Rudy Hobbs says he'll vote "no" on the budget if it stays in its current form.
