Bing Brings Union Leaders To Table To Talk Cuts

DETROIT (WWJ) - Detroit Mayor Dave Bing has asked the leaders of the city's unions to come to the table to take cuts to avoid an emergency financial manager in the city. Lekita Thomas, a steward for AFSCME Local 207, says she can't afford to take any more cuts.

"I hope everybody wake up and stand up together because it's a lot they're not telling the people. They're trying to put it on the backs of the workers and it's not us that caused this problem.  It's a lot of mismanagement and misspending," says Thomas.

The city plans to meet with each union separately.  Bing is also planning to meet with police & fire pension boards this week.  He already met last week with Governor Snyder and state legislators about increasing the casino tax and maintaining the city  income and utility taxes.
