I-94 Reopens Following Pole Fire

PORT HURON (WWJ) - A section of I-94 near Port Huron has reopened following an electrical fire.

WWJ Newsradio 950 got some details from M-DOT's Rob Morosi.

"The transformer caught on fire. It was a minor blaze. But, again, we're dealing with electrical power lines so every precaution was taken," he said.

Morosi said M-DOT workers joined a DTE crew at the scene to get the new pole in place and the wires hung up as quickly as possible.

Tipsters said downtown Port Huron was "a mess" for hours.  The Blue Water Bridge remained open, but M-DOT was suggesting alternate routes to Canada.

By 4 p.m. the freeway had been reopened in both directions.
