Ford Bringing Back Classic 'Boss 302' Mustang

DETROIT (WWJ) - As the sales battle between the Ford Mustang and Chevy Camaro heats up...Ford is bringing back a classic performance trim of the Mustang.

WWJ AutoBeat Reporter Jeff Gilbert explains that Ford sees no problem selling the limited production Boss 302 Mustang, which is just starting to arrive at dealerships.  The vehicle was introduced last summer, and seen first in this area at the 2010 Woodward Dream Cruise.

Mustang Brand Manager Jim Owen says it's a very special vehicle with high power, but civilized manners.  The "Boss" puts out 444 horsepower, and comes with performance technology.

"It's a car you can drive right from the street, in Michigan for example, right onto Waterford Hills Track and do fast lap times," says Owen.

Only one Mustang in the past has had the label "Boss", and it was build in the sixties, and is considered a legend today.

"The decision to build a modern Boss was not entered into lightly," said Derrick Kuzak, group vice president, Global Product Development. "The entire team at Ford felt the time was right, and with the right ingredients."

It is expected that Ford will make 4000 of the Boss Mustang 302's and Ford is not expecting to have any problem selling them.
