Art Birmingham Returns To Shain Park

BIRMINGHAM (WWJ) - Art Birmingham, the fine art fair presented annually by the Birmingham Bloomfield Art Center (BBAC), takes place Saturday and Sunday, May 14 and 15 in Shain Park, the extensively re-designed urban oasis in downtown Birmingham.

This year marks the 30th anniversary of the much-loved community event. Art Birmingham has become a central part of BBAC's vision to provide "art for all."

Showcasing more than 175 artists from around the country, Art Birmingham features painting, glass, wood, ceramics, mixed media, photography, jewelry, fiber and more.

Each artist has been selected by an independent jury which evaluates the artwork for creativity and skill ensuring the inclusion of some of the best independent artists working today.

"These artists work tirelessly and travel the country doing what they truly love," Addie Langford, President and CEO of the Art Center, said in a statement. "Not only do they bring impressive works of art to the community, but an authentic art experience to the fairgoer. A work of fine art has a rich history and future; its history begins with an artist's inspiration and its future starts when the fairgoer acquires the piece. It's a unique and joyful relationship that is nurtured and enhanced by the art fair experience."

In addition, along with the fabulous artwork, talented artists and a festive food court, the BBAC will also host arts and craft activities for children and adults.

You can learn more about the BBAC by visiting its booth and pick up your first time student class discount cards allowing you to discover your inner artist by exploring one of the many art classes offered by the BBAC's dedicated faculty.

The 30th Annual Art Birmingham takes place on Saturday from 10:00 am until 6:00 pm and on Sunday from 10:00 am until 5:00 pm, on the streets in and surrounding Shain Park in downtown Birmingham. Admission is free.
