Help US Postal Service Stamp Out Hunger

DETROIT (WWJ) - On Saturday, May 14th, the National Association of Letter Carriers will hold the Largest Food Drive in the world.

You can help your letter carriers Stamp Out Hunger by simply leaving donations of non-perishable food items, like soup, canned meats and fish, canned vegetables and fruit, as well as pasta and rice, next to your mailbox before the time of your regular mail delivery.

Your letter carrier will do the rest, collecting the donations and delivering them to food banks and pantries in the community.

Every second Saturday in May, letter carriers in more than 10,000 cities and towns across America deliver much more than mail when they walk and drive along their postal routes.

Now in its 18th year, the Stamp Out Hunger! effort is the nation's largest single-day food drive, having collected more than 1 billion pounds of food since its inception in 1993. Last year more than 77 million pounds of food were collected.

About 35.5 million people face hunger every day in America, including 13 million children. This drive is one way people can help those right in their own city or town who need help.
