Doctor: For Shoes, Choose Fit Over Fashion

BERKLEY (WWJ) - Too often when we shop for shoes, fashion wins out over fit and function. It's a habit we need to break.

Dr. Michael Schey, a podiatrist with NorthPointe Foot and Ankle in Berkley, points out that poorly fitting shoes can throw-off your balance and contribute to slips and falls.

He suggests that when we shop for shoes, try on a couple of sizes and select the one that is most comfortable.

Dr. Schey also stresses the importance of checking your feet regularly for suspicious changes that could signal the presence of a medical problem. This is particularly important for diabetics who may have poor circulation and need to carefully monitor growths like bunions and corns.
