Former Head Of Union Pleads Guilty To Taking Kickbacks

DETROIT (WWJ) - The former head of the Michigan Regional Council of Carpenters, Ralph Mabry, pleads guilty in federal court to taking kickbacks in connection with his position as chair of the union's pension fund trust.

Mabry admits to accepting between $5,000 and $10,000 in hotel and entertainment expenses between April 2004, and September 2006.

Two others connected with the scheme pleaded guilty previously. Mabry faces up to three years in prison and a fine of up to $250,000.

"We will pursue corruption whether it occurs in City Hall, public schools, federal agencies or labor unions," says U.S. Attorney Barbara McQuade.

McQuade says the investigation isn't over yet.
