You Won't Have To Travel Far For Summer Entertainment

DETROIT (WWJ) - Gas prices got you thinking about spending more time closer to home?  If so, there are plenty of activities to keep you busy this summer.

The Fox Theatre in Detroit has a number of events going on this season, including concerts such as Janet Jackson and Tony Bennett... as well as performances such as Cirque du Soleil.

WWJ spoke with Tom Wilson, President and CEO of Olympia Entertainment.

"What normally is a quiet period for the theatre business, the summer. But we have a very active one, so business is good, and when business is good, it means that people are a little more confident in their positions about their jobs and that is a good thing for everybody," says Wilson.

Wilson says ticket prices range from high to low, to make sure those on a budget can afford to buy tickets to their favorite performances.

Cirque du Soleil will be returning with an extravaganza unlike any before.

"This year they're coming, this fall, actually with a Michael Jackson tribute show that they're putting together with ... the theatrics that only Cirque du Soleil can do," Wilson says.

And he says, they made sure that anyone on a budget could afford tickets.

"We always try to have budget prices, we have group prices for virtually every show, so that any group or anybody will have an opportunity to come in and see it. We scale the house, so obviously there are some higher end prices but obviously we have some very affordable prices at the other end," adds Wilson.

And, if you enjoy theatre, individual tickets to the Fox Theatre's 2011-12  Series are now on sale.
