Ice Cream Cool Down
After what felt like months of record rain and cool temperatures, Detroit gets a preview of summer with the hot and humid 90s taking over for a couple of days. The cool tasty treat to reach for? Ice cream! You shared with us some of your favorite places for a frozen treat, but at First Forecast Mornings we decided to do our own taste test.
Armed with a notepad, camera and a desire to cool off with a cone, I took on the assignment.
I visited three places, keeping it simple with basic vanilla. I made my comparisons based on flavor, creaminess and texture. Here goes! (in no particular order)
I had to take a number at Stroh's Ice Cream Parlor; it was so crowded! (That seemed to be the trend everywhere; you like your ice cream!) Tyler Humphrey cheerfully served up a non fat frozen yogurt that had a good balance of vanilla flavor.
Despite a fast melt, I made quick work of it and moved on to the next place.
That turned out to be Yoz Yogurt, keeping with the frozen yogurt healthy theme. Knowing I had at least one more cone to eat, I asked for a 3 ounce.
John Davis brought me a cone that tasted buttery and was a good value for the size. Luckily, I had my husband with me. He's a good clean up man when your eyes are bigger than your stomach!
One more place. I was saving it for last. Dairy Queen, a childhood favorite. This time, I splurged and got my usual: a vanilla cone dipped in chocolate! Leeanne Mrock was only too happy to oblige. Here's my secret to the perfect dipped cone. I always pay in advance so I can get the chocolate dipped handed to me before the coating hardens, delicious!
Looking forward to more days of exploring Michigan's ice cream best! In the meantime, what's your favorite place for a cold treat?
