New Graduate Gets Prison In Crash That Killed 3

LANSING (AP) - A new high school graduate has been sentenced to at least four years in prison for a drunken crash that killed three passengers in the Lansing area.

Police say 17-year-old Brett Johnson of Dimondale was intoxicated and driving 80 miles per hour with his lights off when he crashed into a tree in January.

Ingham County Judge Paula Manderfield said Wednesday the punishment was intended to send a message to young people about the perils of drinking and driving. Johnson recently graduated from Holt High School. Two fellow seniors and a past Holt graduate were killed because of the crash.

In court, Johnson asked for forgiveness and said he loved the three victims. Relatives of the victims asked the judge to send Johnson to prison.
