Memorial Bench Planned For Michigan Boy Who Died At Zoo

TOLEDO (AP) - The Toledo Zoo in northwest Ohio says it's planning a memorial bench to honor a 6-year-old Michigan boy who died after collapsing at the zoo during a school field trip this month.

Nicholas Allore was from Temperance, Mich., near the Ohio state line. A coroner determined he had an undiagnosed heart condition.

Relatives said he had been excited to see the 300-pound male African elephant born June 3, and some had asked the zoo to name its new arrival after Nicholas. The zoo says the kindergartener's parents preferred the idea of the tribute bench.

The wrought-iron bench will include a commemorative plaque and will be put in part of a new elephant facility slated to open next spring.
