Emery King Will Be On Loan To Bing Administration

DETROIT (WWJ) - Former longtime WDIV news anchor Emery King is joining Detroit Mayor Dave Bing's administration. King says the mayor approached his boss at the Detroit Medical Center, where he is currently the Communications Director.

King tells WWJ's Sandra McNeill that he will consult on strategy for both internal and external communications at the mayor's office.

"The Mayor asked if we could come in and help him, to access the communications problem in his office, and to take a look at the internal and external communications process, and see if we could give him some help in doing that," said King.

King says he will not replace Karen Dumas (former communications chief for Detroit Mayor Dave Bing) and does not want the role, he'll keep his job at DMC.

Dumas left amid a storm of controversy over her role and how much power she wielded in the mayor's office.

"I'd kind of like to get in for myself and see what is going on," said King.

King says he will be consulting only, saying he will be an executive on loan from the Detroit Medical Center and will keep his job at the DMC.
