Police Discover Large Weapons Cache In Roseville Home

ROSEVILLE (WWJ) - A 55-year-old Roseville man is due in court, Friday, to be arraigned on weapons and explosives charges following a case of domestic violence that led to a barricade situation.

Officers were called to the home on Nagel Street, near Frazho and Gratiot, after a 40-year-old Roseville woman contacted police and said she had been assaulted by her boyfriend. When police arrived on the scene, they were told that the man had been making explosive devices in the home and was in possession of several hand grenades and pipe bombs.

They used a taser to subdue the man when he tried to flee about 1 a.m. Thursday.

Investigators discovered a large collection of rifles, ammunition and what appeared to be bomb making materials in the house. Police said it was unclear why he had such an array of weapons, but they believe the man is "a survivalist and had developed some type of bunker mentality."

The suspect, whose name was not immediately released, is being held in the Roseville Police Department Jail.
