Multi-Building Fire In Highland Park

HIGHLAND PARK (WWJ) - Firefighters have their hands full with a major fire near Woodward and Davison. Ray Templin is a former WWJ engineer and reports from the scene:

"The flames are coming through the top of the building, two doors down from the old Highland Appliance building ...Woodward is closed both ways (near Davison)," said Templin.

Highland Park Mayor Hubert Yopp says this is the third major fire today:

"It's strange and of course, and it's under investigation," said Yopp.

Highland Park police say they're worried there's an arsonist on the loose. It started early this morning with an apartment building fire, followed by two house fires...and now, this. Police have closed Woodward for the time being.

"Woodward Ave. just north of Davison they had a commercial building that started on fire ... the fire spread to five buildings, with  ... they had low water pressure, they couldn't put as much water on the fire as they wanted to and the fire spread quite quickly," said Jason Preston  a WWJ listner in the area.

In all five buildings are in flames and the smoke is visible for miles.
