DETROIT (WWJ) – The 82nd annual Major League Baseball mid-summer classic game will see Avila get the start behind the plate on July 12 at Chase Field in Phoenix, as determined by fan balloting results released Sunday afternoon.

Tigers’ fans will get to see Verlander, Cabrera and closing pitcher Valverde on the A.L. roster as reserves. Shortstop Jhonny Peralta, who is batting .311 with 14 homers and 48 RBIs, might be a candidate to replace starter Derek Jeter of the New York Yankees. Jeter has been on the disabled list since June 13 with a strained right calf, but is in the midst of a minor-league rehab assignment.
