Highland Park Fires Take Toll On Multiple Buildings

HIGHLAND PARK (WWJ) - A tough weekend for firefighters in Highland Park as a major fire has taken out five commercial buildings at Woodward and Davison.

Several vacant store fronts on Pasadena, where the fire is presumed to have started have burned completely to the ground.

A brick wall collapsed - just missing two firefighters.

One store owner says he probably won't be able to rebuild. Hyacynth Chang's who owns a furniture warehouse that has been in business since 1993 spoke with WWJ's Vickie Thomas from the scene of the fire:

"I don't have that kind of ability, I lost everything, that's a lot of money to invest," said Chang.

George Cribbs, who has been shooting fires for 25-years says that he arrived on the scene before the fire department: "It was fully engulfed and they had water problems, they had to go to five different fire hydrants before they could find water, and then it was probably another 15 minutes before they got water on it," said Cribbs.

"So there is another business gone ... they've got to do something about the vacants ... that's all there is to it," added Cribbs.
