Athletes Test Their Skills At Shores-Pointes Adventure Triathlon

ST. CLAIR SHORES (WWJ) - Athletes will test their wills in kayaking, biking and running in the inaugural Shores-Pointes Adventure Triathlon on Saturday. Sponsored by Henry Ford Health System, the event covers parts of St. Clair Shores, Grosse Pointe Shores and Grosse Pointe Farms.

Competitors will start at Blossom Heath Beach with the kayaking portion of the event and proceed around a series of buoys that will take them into 10 Mile Bay and back for a 2.1 mile kayak race.

Athletes will then transition to the 13.4 mile bike race that will take them down Jefferson to Lake Shore Drive for a smooth fast course along the picturesque Lake St. Clair and through Grosse Pointe neighborhoods to Henry Ford Medical Center Cottage and back.

The last leg of the triathlon finishes with a 5K run down Jefferson to just past Marter Road and back.

Although many participating athletes are from the local area, some competitors are coming from as far away as Colorado.

Additional events include a duathlon, which consists of a 5K run and a 13.4 mile bike race concluding with another 5K run, and a 5K run/walk for those that want to test their time and be a part of the excitement of the day.

All the profits from the event will be donated to the athletic departments for Grosse Pointe North, Grosse Pointe South, Southlake, Lakeview and Lakeshore high schools.

The event kicks off on Saturday, July 16 at 7:00 am. For more information about the event visit www.shorespointestri.com.
