Hundreds Without Power In Dearborn Area

DEARBORN (WWJ) - With temperatures hovering in the 90s Monday and throughout the week, there are reports of hundreds of outages in and around Dearborn.

Dearborn Heights resident Doug Nicoll tells WWJ he's been without power since mid-afternoon Sunday ... and he's not too happy about it.

"And when I called DTE, they told me there were about 900 of us without power ... and subsequently I found out there were 350 without power due to a line falling and 600 due to a voltage drop," Nicoll told WWJ Newsradio 950.

Nicoll said the recorded message he got when he called DTE, was that his lights would be back on between 1 a.m. and 3 a.m. Monday, but he was still without power late Monday morning.

"It's gonna be interesting. We don't have any hot water, we don't have any power in the house ... hopefully, they'll get it fixed today, but I'm not that willing to say that they'll get it done," he said.

WWJ's Vickie Thomas, reporting from N. Waverly Street in Dearborn, caught up with a contractor for DTE Energy. His crew had just finished removing a downed tree that took out some power lines during a previous storm. He told her they had been working for about 24 hours straight just dealing with previous damage.

Vickie spoke with Dearborn Resident Debra O'Hara about how she's coping. "Today it's supposed to be very hot ... I am afraid (to go home)," she said.

A DTE spokesman told WWJ crews are working to restore power, and they hope to have everyone back on later Monday.

Meantime, a power outage was affecting about 1,600 homes and businesses in Warren, Monday afternoon. The outage is in an area from 11 to 12 Mile and from Ryan to Dequindre.

Stay tuned to WWJ for the latest.
