Detroit's KEM Presenting 2nd Day-long Free Concert To Aid Homeless

DETROIT (WWJ) - Motown Recording Artist KEM will be hosting his second day-long free concert and food drive to aid the homeless this summer.

"KEM Live @ Mack & Third" is scheduled to take place on Sunday, August 28, at Detroit's Cass Park. The event will feature "A Message & A Meal" from KEM and include several vendors with food and merchandise, free health screenings and five hours of live entertainment. Long-time Detroit favorites "Morris Day & The Time" will be among the performers, and the day-long concert will culminate in a performance by Grammy-nominated artist KEM.

At the event, KEM will be gathering food and raising funds for the area's homeless shelters and food banks and encouraging people to volunteer to help those less fortunate.

"Mack & Third is about giving back," said KEM. "I've been fortunate to overcome many obstacles, including being addicted and homeless. If it weren't for organizations like the Detroit Rescue Mission and NSO (Neighborhood Service Organization), I wouldn't be where I am today. I want to encourage others in their current situations by offering something tangible like a meal, along with the hope that things can get better. By sharing my music with a free concert, I also hope to inspire others to give back."

In 2009, KEM hosted his first "Mack & Third" event, serving more than 500 of Detroit's homeless citizens a meal and collected nearly 40,000 canned goods. An estimated 20,000 people enjoyed the free concert.
