Berkley Girls Sell Lemonade For A Cause

BERKLEY (WWJ) - A local teen is bringing up a blast from the past, to raise money for a good cause.  Thirteen-year-old Lauren has set up a lemonade stand in her neighborhood on Beverly Street near Greenfield in Berkley.

Lauren says the lemonade is 25 cents a cup. "We're giving it all to charity, it's actually for cancer research," said Lauren.

"I was at the gas station and I picked up a flyer, and I had a friend whose grandmother had just passed away from cancer ... and I thought, it's a good idea," said Lauren

"I've had some family members who have had cancer ... my dad had cancer and he lived through it," said her partner Rachael.

Business has been brisk for the two girls who are getting some advertising support from friend down the street.

"We've sold maybe 30 (cups of lemonade) in the past hour,  ... we've sold a lot ... we have friends down at the corner waving signs around," said Lauren.

The girls will be part of a team in a cancer walk fundraiser in Detroit in September.
