Our Idiot Brother - Or Is He?

NOVI (WWJ) – Paul Rudd is a funnyman. And, in Our Idiot Brother, Rudd does what he does best: make people laugh. And laugh. And laugh.

Rudd stars as Ned; brother to Liz (Emily Mortimer), Miranda (Elizabeth Banks) and Natalie (Zooey Deschanel). Ned is the kind of person who is always upbeat. He makes his living as an "organic farmer whose willingness to rely on the honesty of mankind is a less-than-optimum strategy for a tidy, trouble-free existence," which means that Ned is completely carefree and non-confrontational.

Ned's life takes a turn when he's dumped by his girlfriend and his three sisters come to his rescue. Because he needs a place to stay, he eventually moves in with each of them … changing lives along the way.

Our Idiot Brother is a comedy with a message: While Ned's sisters don't willingly accept the changes that come their way, they eventually come to realize that Ned is not the idiot they all thought he was. And that is what is at the heart of this movie.

So, what did I think? While I enjoyed this movie overall, the eye-opening transformation that each of Ned's sisters experiences just isn't clear enough (at least not for me). But, that is just one small hiccup in a movie that is really a breath of fresh air.

Our Idiot Brother is in theaters now.
