Canadian Pacific Railway Holds Detroit Job Fair

DETROIT (WWJ) - It's all aboard for job seekers this week at the MGM Grand Casino in Detroit, as Canadian Pacific Railway Company is looking to hire people who are ready and willing to move to North or South Dakota.

Company spokesman Ed Greenberg said the company is mainly looking for conductors, who do a lot more than just pull the train whistle.

"They are an integral part of the train crew. Along with the locomotive engineer, a conductor is in charge of detailing a train's route and specific movements. So, this person is very important in terms of the safe operations of a train."

The company, which operates in 13 states and six Canadian provinces, is expanding to hire a total of 1,750 people in 2011.

Greenberg said the interest for jobs in Metro Detroit was so high, they added an extra day to the recruitment process.

"As a result of the interest that we've already been receiving from local folks in Detroit, we've added a second introductory session for Wednesday, August 31."

Recruiters will be camped out in Detroit's MGM Grand Casino on Monday, Aug. 29 and Wednesday, Aug.31, from 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. both days.

Applicants need a high school diploma or equivalent.  After six months of intense training, pay starts at $38,000 and rises to $54,000 for those with experience. Benefits include health insurance, plus a $850 relocation bonus for those moving to the Dakotas.

Applicants can get a head start by filling out an application online, or just show up with your resume. On-the-spot interviews will be performed throughout the recruitment process.
