Detroit Companies Look To Hire At Career Expo

NOVI (WWJ) - You've probably heard of these companies before: Olympia Entertainment, Compuware, Quicken Loans and ePrize. They're among the companies who'll be looking for job candidates at HiredMyWay.com's career expo Wednesday at Suburban Collection Showplace.

You've updated your resume, practiced your pitch and now you need face-time with the people who are hiring. Erin O'Connor, President of Detroit-based HiredMyWay.com said you must have a strategy.

"I think our site has made it so easy for job seekers that are our of work to just go ahead and apply at any position and just sit back and wait. But, you've got to put some work into your job search."

O'Connor, a former corporate recruiter, said job seekers should always be well-prepared and are encouraged to ask questions. She said its disappointing when a job candidate comes into an interview knowing nothing about the company they want to work for.

"They would flop in the interview, because the first question I would ask a potential employee is, as a recruiter and representing my client, is 'Do you know anything about this company think I'm talking to you about today,' and they're like 'Well, I don't even know what they do.'"

The career expo continues until 4 p.m. at Suburban Collection Showplace in Novi. For more details, visit the Detroit Job Desk.
