Detroit Rejects Offer To Maintain Tiger Stadium Field

(Detroit-WWJ) Thanks, but no thanks. The city of Detroit rejects an offer from Chevrolet to fix up the baseball diamond at the former Tiger Stadium site so it can be used by youthful ballplayers.

General Motors said Chevy volunteers could maintain the field at Michigan and Trumbull at no charge to the city.

However, city officials are still holding out hope that they can sell the property for a major redevelopment project.

Chevrolet says the offer stands if the Detroit Economic Growth Corporation changes its mind.

The Tigers left the venerable "field of dreams" following the 1999 season for the team's current home, Comerica Park. Tiger Stadium stood vacant for years before it was demolished in 2009.
