1 Yale Teen Killed, 5 Hurt In Crash

BROCKWAY TWP. (WWJ) - A tragic automobile crash near Yale in St. Clair county has left one teen dead and five others injured.

Sheriff Tim Donnellon said 17-year-old Brittany Kennedy died of the injuries she suffered when a car and an SUV collided Friday morning at what was supposed to be a four-way stop.

Two other occupants of the car, Brittany's twin sister Brianna and 18-year-oid Donna Rapley of Yale were transported to local hospitals, then air-lifted to University of Michigan Hospital for treatment.

The three occupants of the SUV, all 16-years old, were being treated at a local hospital. There was no immediate information about their conditions or their injuries.  Their names have not been released.

All six people involved in the crash were students at Yale High School.

Donnellon said there was extensive fog at the time the crash occurred in Brockway Township just after 7 a.m., but they're still investigating how it happened.

Donnellon said, at least initially, it did not appear to be a case of reckless driving.

Yale-Brockway Fire and Rescue, Kenockee Township Fire and Rescue and Tri-Hospital EMS assisted  St. Clair County Sheriff's officials at the scene.
