UAW Calls For Monday Meeting With Chrysler's Local Leaders
DETROIT (WWJ) - UAW president Bob King has summoned local Chrysler leaders to Detroit for a meeting on Monday. Could Chrysler be nearing a deal?
WWJ's Auto Beat Reporter Jeff Gilbert says that doesn't necessarily mean the parties have reached an agreement.
WWJ's Jeff Gilbert notes that this meeting would typically be used for going over a new tentative contract. Although they don't have a deal yet, they are planning to negotiate all weekend and they're trying to make the pattern reached at GM and Ford work for Chrysler.
That pattern includes large signing bonuses and wage increases for entry-level workers, things Chrysler CEO Sergio Marchionne called quote, "overly-generous" by Chrysler's standards.
