Holly Motorcyclist Killed In Crash With Deer

HARTLAND TWP. (WWJ) - A motorcyclist from Holly has died after hitting a deer.

The Livingston County Sheriff's Department said 60-year old James Moelke was riding his Honda Gold Wing motorcycle on Old U.S. 23 near Wallace Lake Drive around 7:30 p.m. Monday when he hit the deer crossing the road. The motorcycle went off the road and Moelke was thrown off.

The Hartland Area Fire Department, Livingston County EMS, and Deputies with the Sheriff Department performed CPR and other life saving measures at the scene but were unable to revive Moelke who was pronounced dead at the scene.

Investigators said speed and alcohol did not appear to be factors in the crash.

Moelke was wearing a Department of Transportation-approved helmet at the time of the crash.
