Police: Drunk Bicyclist Hit By Car

JACKSON (WWJ) - The Sheriff's Office in Jackson County says an intoxicated man was riding his bike when he was hit by a car and severely injured.

Sheriff Steve Rand said 47-year-old Clifford Nelson was riding his bicycle in the middle of the street near Page and Streator avenues when he was struck by eastbound-traveling vehicle. Deputies suspect from information, evidence and witness accounts that Nelson was intoxicated.

Nelson was transported to an area hospital with severe injuries.

The driver of the vehicle, 41-year-old Christopher Sanford, was not injured.

The accident remains under investigation.
