Ford UAW Vote Appears To Be Passing
DEARBORN (WWJ) - Quite a turnaround for the UAW's tentative contract with Ford, which now appears to be passing.
Thanks to big, positive votes at locals in Dearborn and Flat Rock, the deal -- which was going down in defeat last week -- now leads with a 58- to 42-percent margin. The union says that's about 3,000 votes as far as a cushion goes, which about 62-percent of locals reporting in.
This is an important ratification vote as Ford is the only auto maker the union is allowed to strike this year.
The union expects to have the voting at Ford wrapped up Tuesday.
When the tentative agreement was announced earlier this month, Ford and the UAW said jobs and signing bonuses were at the heart of the proposed contract.
