Filmed In Detroit: "Joy Road" Debuts In Theatres

SOUTHFIELD (WWJ) - An independent film shot in Detroit is making its big debut this weekend.

"Joy Road" features Wood Harris (previously starred in the television drama "The Wire") as a successful attorney who is forced to defend his sister's thug boyfriend, accused of triple murder. The attorney's investigation uncovers a conspiracy involving a local company, city officials and police-a conspiracy that could cost him his life.

Harry Davis, the film's director and native Detroiter, said the movie features a lot of local talent and scenery.

"We employ on both sides of the camera. I'd say 75 percent of the talent on both sides of the camera are Detroit natives. There's a lot of shots of Detroit, different neighborhoods and shots that people will recognize, so Detroit is really a character in this film."

"Joy Road" is playing at the AMC Star Theatre in Southfield and the AMC Fairlane Theatre in Dearborn. It's also showing in select cities across the country.
