Conditional Visits For Dad Accused Of Allowing His 9-Year-Old To Drive
DETROIT (AP) - A judge says a Detroit-area man accused of allowing his 9-year-old daughter to drive his van can see her under certain conditions.
Shawn Weimer can visit his daughter under the supervision of child welfare officials. He also will use a device that determines whether he has consumed any alcohol.
Police say he allowed his daughter to drive last month in Brownstown Township after a night of heavy drinking.
A judge in Woodhaven approved the changes Tuesday at the request of Weimer's lawyer. The Wayne County prosecutor's office didn't object.
Weimer is due in court Nov. 8 for a hearing to determine if there's probable cause to send him to trial on child abuse charges.
