Warren Priest Won't Face Criminal Sexual Misconduct Charges

PONTIAC (WWJ) - The Oakland County Prosecutor's Office says a Catholic priest will not face criminal charges, following allegations that he had sexual contact with a teenage boy.

The prosecutor's office says that the statute of limitations has expired for the accusations against 66-year-old Rev. Gary Schulte.

The claims against Schulte stem from an incident that took place in 1991 with a 16-year-old boy from Madison Heights. Schulte was assigned to St. Sylvester Parish in Warren three years later. The Victim Assistance Coordinator said they received a report of the allegations in September this year.

Schulte, who has been with St. Sylvester Parish for 17 years, had been put on administrative leave after the allegation surfaced.

Prosecutors say they would take up the case if there were new developments. The alleged victim could still pursue a civil lawsuit.

The Archdiocese said the prosecutor's decision does not impact their own investigation.
