Junior League Of Detroit Hosts Annual Festival Of Wreaths

GROSSE POINTE FARMS (WWJ) - The Junior League of Detroit will be hosting the second annual Festival of Wreaths on Saturday, Nov. 19 at the Grosse Pointe War Memorial's Alger House.

The Festival of Wreaths, which runs from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m., offers a great start to the holiday season, with designer wreaths, topiaries, and ornaments available for purchase, along with fresh greens and other holiday decorations.

Spokeswoman Caroline Marks said the event will feature dozens of wreaths of every shape and kind.

"We basically gave all these designers and artists free rein to create wreaths, so we have a little bit of everything. We have beautiful Nashville wreaths, giant Christmas wreaths, different themes, you name it we've got it," Marks said.

The wreaths range in price from $25 to hundreds of dollars.

"We have one that a designed donated that's actually got a Hermes scarf wrapped around it as part of the base so, that topiary is probably valued at $500," Marks said.

The designer wreaths and topiaries will be available for purchase during the day at a "buy it now" price, or shoppers can take their chances in a silent auction at the Cocktail Party and Auction from 6 to 8 p.m. Tickets for the party and auction are $35 per person.

There will also be fun activities for all ages, including children's crafts, cookie decorating, letters to Santa and a special opportunity to view two of Santa's live reindeer in a candy cane corral outside.

"A member of our committee hunted them down and found a guy who has reindeer that he brings. So, we thought it would be fun to have two of Santa's reindeer on site for the kids to see," Marks said.

All proceeds from the Festival of Wreaths will support a full year of weekly art classes at two Detroit elementary schools through a partnership with Art Road Nonprofit.

Admission is $5 at the door. The Grosse Pointe War Memorial is located at 32 Lake Shore Rd. in Grosse Pointe Farms. For more information, visit jldetroit.org or call 313-881-0040.
